Welcome!

I love being with the lives, lands, and waters that make up our planet. I'm an ecologist, educator, and lichenologist in Washington, DC.

Research & Collaboration

I manage the USDA Norman A. Berg National Plant Materials Center, where we research soil health and water quality on Mid-Atlantic farmland. I also lead lichen walks with the Mycological Association of Washington and I'm always happy to talk about working together on lichen or plant ecology. Get in touch.

Teaching

I aspire to excite students about discovering new, surprising, and profound stories about the lives of others in the world with us. I've taught at Rutgers, George Mason, The College of New Jersey, and Southern New Hampshire. I've also done field teaching in Rhode Island, taught in a prison classroom at Fort Dix, and taught high school chemistry in Jordan. Get in touch.

Nature Walks

I lead lichen walks in the DC area and U.S. Northeast, at parks, cemeteries, wildlife refuges, wherever lichens are doing interesting things. Get in touch.
